As autumn looms before us, instead of pulling out my sweaters and boots, we should be looking at Instagram, blogs, and fashion magazines to see what’s hot for fall.

Today I’d like to start with the Velvet. The quintessentially 90s trend has made a definitive comeback this fall, dominating runways from Paris to New York.

Since spring, velvet has become a wardrobe mainstay, and similarly rich fabrications like brocade and embroidery are following suit for fall. To balance the opulence of these materials and make them modern, try an unexpected palette and clean lines. Also, choosing a silhouette with cutouts or cropped pants and tops will help reduce the heaviness of a fabric.
Fortunately, there are lots of options for adding velvet to your wardrobe with different trend elements. These are some of my favourites.

Jumpsuits/rompers
From Tadashi Shoji to Tommy Hilfiger, jumpsuits made a splash at New York Fashion Week and what better way to dive into fall than to marry the velvet trend with this easy one-piece.
